By now we are all aware of the horrible tragedy that occured on the afternoon of Friday, April 6th surrounding the Humboldt Broncos Jr. A hockey team. One of LCHS and LJAC’s alumni was critically injured in the crash and remains in hospital in Saskatoon recovering from his injuries. Tyler Smith played much of his minor hockey career in Leduc and has given back to so many younger teams and individual players, and been a role model to many more. Now is our chance to show our support for Tyler and the Smith family.
A ‘Skate for Smitty’ will be hosted in the Sobey’s Arena on Thursday, April 19th 8:00-9:15PM. The skaters themselves are by invite only and will feature current and former players that have played both with and against Tyler over his hockey career. The arena however, is open to the public and we encourage everyone to come and show their support for the Smith family. There will be tshirts, hats, car decals for sale as well as a silent auction with all proceeds going to the Smith family to help offset the immediate out of pocket expenses that they will be faced with in the days, weeks, months ahead. We hope we can count on your support for a donated item or monetary donation to this initiative so that the Smith’s can focus solely on Tyler and his road to recovery.
Alternatively there has beena trust fund set up in Tyler’s name at the ATB branch in Leduc.
